Isidro attended Manual Arts High School and decided to attend college away from home. As the first person to attend a 4 year university in his family, he didn?t know what to expect. The South Central Scholars Foundation support made the transition easier. Isidro received his Bachelor?s of Science in Business Administration with a concentration in Marketing from San Francisco State University.
Isidro was deeply involved with the San Francisco State University (SFSU) campus community. He worked with the SFSU Housing and Residential Services where he supervised and served as a mentor to approximately 65 freshmen. He also entered the world of student politics. Isidro?s greatest campus impact was through his 3 year participation in student government where he ultimately was elected to serve as President and spokesperson for approximately 30,000 students. Academically, Isidro was distinguished on SF State?s Dean?s List for four semesters.
Isidro currently serves as a Project Coordinator with Bienvenidos Children?s Center, a Los Angeles based Non-Profit dedicated to keeping families together by strengthening their ability to make life changes and break down barriers to achieving growth, self-development and empowerment.
Isidro also volunteers his time with the South Central Scholars Alumni Association, serving as Co-President of the Executive Board. With support from the South Central Scholars Foundation, the Rosalinde and Arthur Gilbert Foundation and the Frieda C. Fox Foundation, the South Central Scholars Alumni Association is pioneering a new community based college exposure model that connects college graduates that were raised in or attended schools in South Central Los Angeles to youth currently enrolled in the same Middle Schools and High Schools in South Central Los Angeles. As a founding Alumni Association board member, Isidro believes that the South Central Scholars Alumni Association will play a major role in increasing college going application and attendance rates from college ready South Central LA students.
Mr. Armenta?s future plans include continued participation in educational, civic engagement, and economic development programs focused on children and their families in South Los Angeles.
