Who is Eligible?

SCS Noonan Scholars is looking for highly motivated high school juniors from under-resourced schools and families who aspire to attend a selective college or university. Students enter the program during the spring semester of their junior year of high school and are immediately immersed in our comprehensive program model.

SCS Noonan Scholars reviews applications holistically and does not have absolute requirements for admission. However, students who are accepted into the program typically meet the following:

  • Cumulative high School GPA of 3.7 or higher (unweighted, out of 4.0)
  • 10th Grade PSAT Score of 1050+ or 11th Grade PSAT Score of 1140+ (if taken)
  • Household income at or below $75,000
  • Identify as one of the following:
    • A first-generation college student
    • A student of color

Part I: Contact Information

Program Details

This application is for students in their Junior year of high school who are interested in attending the 2019 and 2020 Summer Academy Programs and becoming an SCS Noonan Scholar. 

Students who are selected as
SCS Noonan Scholars benefit from:

  • Six-week, residential Summer Academy following their junior year and senior year of high school. At Summer Academy, Scholars take math and writing courses taught by college professors and benefit from supports around the college application and college transition process. 
  • A $500 stipend each summer that they participate in Summer Academy, and a $1000 stipend each year of college. 
  • A laptop that is theirs to keep at the end of the 2019 Summer Academy. 
  • Ongoing individual support, resources, and programming focused on applying to college, and succeeding in college and in career. 

We ask that SCS Noonan Scholars commit to:

  • A six-week residential mandatory Summer Academy in the summer of 2019 AND in the summer of 2020The 2019 Summer Academy will take place at Amherst College. 
    • Summer Academy begins on Saturday, June 22 and ends on Saturday, August 3. 
    • Students will be expected to be present for the entirety of the six-week program in both summers 2019 and 2020.
  • Ongoing communication and responsiveness with SCS Noonan Scholars staff and representatives, including the College Access Manager, College Success Manager, Career Coach, and a mentor, who will ensure that the Scholar is supported in the college application process, the college transition process, and in their career preparation. 

Application Instructions:

  1. Complete Part I: Submit this form which asks for your basic contact information and the contact information for your recommender and high school counselor who will each complete a form. (Your recommender and counselor must be two different people). Each individual will receive an email with a link to a recommendation form that must be submitted by the deadline.

  2. Complete Part II: Once you submit Part I, you will be directed to the full application, Part II. You will also receive a link to Part II. Part II of your application will take roughly 30-40 minutes to complete. You will be asked to provide the following documents in PDF files:

    • High School Transcript (official or unofficial, which includes your Junior Yr Fall Grades)
    • Proof of Family Income (2017 Tax Return (i.e. 1040), or copy of December 2018 pay stubs, or 2017 W-2 or 1099 forms for ALL working adults in the household) If your parents do not have any of these documents, please upload a paragraph in a PDF document explaining why there is no proof of income.

This application will close at 5:00 PM PST on Friday, January 18, 2019. 
You will only be considered for admissions into our program when we have received your full application (Part I and II) and received your letter of recommendation and high school counselor form by this deadline.

Part I
Contact Information

A letter of recommendation from a teacher or principal is required. Please provide us with the name and email address for the teacher or principal that knows you best and can complete a recommendation form for you by January 18, 2018 at 5:00 PM PST. This individual will receive an email from us with a recommendation form once you submit this form. This person cannot be the same person who completes your counselor questionnaire.
Recommender's Information

High School Counselor
Complete questionnaire from a high school counselor or college counselor is required. Please provide us with the name and email address for a counselor that can complete the questionnaire for you by January 18, 2018 at 5:00 PM PST. This individual will receive an email from us with the questionnaire once you submit this form. This person cannot be the same person who completes your recommendation.
