The Sidney Prize and Other Prizes at the University of Sydney

The sidney prize is a monthly award that recognizes investigative journalism that exposes social and economic injustice. In order to qualify for the award, a writer must be able to provide proof that their work appeared in an American newspaper or magazine, or was published on a news website. The deadline for nominations is the last day of the month.

The award is named for New Orleans politician Sidney Story, who was a passionate advocate for economic justice. The prize has been awarded to several writers, including Elisbeth Passmore and Alan Sincic.

Sidney prize winners have been awarded $500 honorariums and a certificate designed by New Yorker cartoonist Edward Sorel. The award is open to writers at all stages of their careers, and is a good way for established authors to gain recognition for their work.

In addition to the Sidney prize, the University of Sydney awards several other prizes to students. For example, a student with outstanding academic performance in Government or Economics can be awarded a scholarship.

Other scholarships are offered to high-achieving students across all disciplines. These scholarships are intended to encourage students to pursue their studies, and to reward those who have demonstrated excellence in their field.

These scholarships are often presented by faculties or departments. The scholarship recipients may choose to have the money used for their scholarship put towards their tuition, or be allowed to use the prize as a fund for research.

A student who has written an Honours thesis in Philosophy and has been impacted by extenuating circumstances during their study is eligible for this scholarship. The student must have completed their thesis under the supervision of a faculty member and submitted a signed copy of their thesis to the Faculty Office.

This scholarship is available to undergraduate and postgraduate students enrolled in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences. The scholarship is funded by the Lucy Firth bequest made in 1997. The student must have written a thesis in Philosophy and have been impacted by extenuating circumstances that have affected their ability to complete their thesis.

The student must submit a copy of their thesis to the Faculty Office by the date listed on the Scholarship Application form. The submission will be screened through TurnItIn for academic integrity.

Another scholarship is the Hillman Prize, which is awarded to a senior undergraduate or graduate student with outstanding academic achievement in a particular discipline. The scholarship is based on the recommendation of a committee of University academic staff, and the winning candidate will receive a $500 honorarium.

Finally, the Sidney Foundation is a nonprofit organization that offers various prizes to writers who have produced compelling work on a wide variety of topics. The Foundation awards a number of prizes each spring, and has a selection committee that chooses the winners.

The Sidney Foundation also awards the Hillman Prize to a scholarly author who has produced an important book on a topic related to labor rights, social justice, or human rights. The Foundation selects a winner from a short list and awards them with a $500 honorarium, a certificate and a bottle of union-made wine.
