Roullete, or Roulette, is one of the world’s most popular casino games. Its simplicity and randomness make it a game of chance that is widely enjoyed by both casual and professional gamblers alike. While it may sound easy, roulette is actually one of the most difficult games to understand. A croupier spins a small white ball around a revolving wheel that has 36 numbers (plus a “0” on some American tables) and several other sections affording players various betting opportunities. Outside bets are those placed on groups of numbers that are arranged on the outer edges of the Roulette table. Outside bets include the Dozens bet, which is placed on the first 12 numbers of the Roulette wheel; and the Columns bet, which is placed on the three vertical columns that lie along the edge of the table.
Inside bets are those placed on individual numbers in the center of the Roulette table. These bets require a higher investment, but they also have the highest odds of winning. Inside bets include the Straight Up bet, which is made by placing a chip on a single number; the Split bet, which is placed on two consecutive numbers; and the Street bet, which is placed on three consecutive numbers in a row. Each of these bets pays out at a different rate: Straight Up is 35 chips to 1, while Split is 17 chips, and Street and Corner pay 8 and 5 chips, respectively.
Before playing Roulette, set a budget for your gambling session and stick to it. Then, choose a table within your budget. Each roulette table carries a placard with information about the minimum and maximum bets allowed. Choosing the right table is especially important, as there are some tables that only allow for “inside” bets, which have a higher house edge than other bets.
